What is Forest School?
Forest School Ethos
Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to 'achieve, develop confidence and self esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment'
Forest School started in Scandinavia in the 1950's. It started by teaching children about the natural world in a way that provides children with experiential learning experiences in their local woodland. These experiences help to develop communication, confidence and practical skills, as well as a greater understanding and connection with nature.
Forest School is based on the principles of having high adult:child ratios and regular visits to the woodland with qualified Forest School practitioners, who will plan activities based on the observed needs and interests of each individual child.
